Une Robe Et Un Voyage

I am going on a trip next week and I needed a new dress to take, something that would look a bit nicer than pants to wear to museums, shopping and out to eat. I wanted it to be in a wrinkle free, light weight fabric, comfortable to wear, and in a style that was easy to make

I found this jersey print....perfect! I loved the design, weight, and color.

I had this classic Vogue dress pattern, I decided to make version C, I already have the sleeveless V-necked version in black knit to take.

...and, I  have this cute little necklace I bought from a shop on Etsy

Voila! Exactly what I wanted.

Where am I going you might ask. I will give you a few hints: it is a place with lots of museums, good food and wine, fashion, lots of interesting history and tons of charm...oh, it is also known for it's tower. Have you guessed...

...Je vais en France bien sûr, avec ma petite-fille!

I am going to France of course, with my granddaughter! We are both very excited.

Cock-A-Doodle-Doo!

I got what I thought was a bright idea...that it might be fun in my pottery class to make a ceramic rooster frieze to put along the  molding of the hood in the kitchen. I have been wanting to add something to make it more interesting and finding just the right thing has proved very illusive. Well, this didn't work either, but they do look quite cute marching along the backsplash. I made eight of them, but only used six. I wanted a  rustic provincial look, because they were made individually each one is a tad different, but I think they add a bit of charm and fun! You can't see it in these pictures but the wallpaper on the back of the glass fronted cabinets is a chicken toile pattern, so these little guys should feel right at home. Cock-a -doodle-do!

In case you are wondering how I attached them to the stainless steel...I Velcro-ed them on! A suggestion from my very bright and artistic sister. Oh! if you have noticed, yes I do have mirrors installed between the marble and the underside of the cabinets, I love them, they expand the space, add light, a bit of glamour, and are easy to maintain.

Along the Garden Path ~ Achillea

I don't know why, but to me Achillea, commonly called Yarrow, has such a perky, happy flower, particularly the yellow types; they are wonderful to cut for bouquets, and in addition  make superior dried flowers. My favorite is the apply  named, Achillea 'Moonshine', here you see it planted in the gravel garden where it really stands out against the gray of the rocks. The flowers are very long lasting and the plants are quite easy to grow.

I love the combination of the yellow flowers and the blue-grey succulents

.
This little guy stepped out of the nearby pond...it looks like he is enjoying all the flowers too, or maybe the  beneficial insects they attract. Don't eat too many my friend, I need them for their help in the garden!

This gravel garden is a new area for me, planted last year it is just beginning to take shape; the plants are finally filling in and beginning to spill over in the way I had envisioned. I am pleased with the effect and...and it saves on water, a major plus here in drought-ridden Southern California.

What's growing along your garden path today? I hope that it is something that makes you happy.

Plaisirs Simples ~ The Old Window

.
Simple pleasures, one of life's joys. Today my simple pleasure is this old stained glass window hanging amongst the roses. I love glimpsing it throughout the day as the light changes in the colored glass and it gently sways in the breeze.

What was your simple pleasure today?
