Should I, or Shouldn't I ~

Skin care has been very important to me most of my adult life, strongly influenced by my Mother who even at 100 years of age had the most beautiful skin.  I remember as a child going with her to purchase her face cream...at that time it was Eterna, by Revlon, which has long ago disappeared from department store shelves.

I have developed my own favorites, things that work for me and I wouldn't want to be without. First, a good sunscreen worn everyday, no matter the weather. I am a total believer in prescription grade Retin A ( my mother used this too). At night I cleanse my face with a Perricone cleanser and every week I use Clinic's Seven Day Scrub to exfoliate.

So this leads me to my dilemma, and one that I would like your opinion on. For quite a while I had been thinking about trying a Clarisonic, and I bought myself one as a birthday gift, but it is still sitting in the box because I am not completely convinced it is worth the cost and isn't just a bit of a gimmick. So...

...before I commit I thought I would ask
your opinion. Do any of you have one, and do you think it is effective?

I don't expect miracles but will this magical little brush really do what it is supposed to?

Will it leave my skin as dewy and fresh as this rose? (Well that's carrying it a bit too far at my age but I wanted to included a close-up photo of this rose)

Seriously, I really would appreciate your imput...it's not to late to take it back. Should I or shouldn't I give it a try. What do you think?

  1. I've thought about getting a clarisonic too, so I'll have to check back and see what everyone has to say. I'm thinking it would work wonderfully though...nice and exfoliating.

  2. No idea re the clarisonic - but having used similar in the past (manual brushes) I'm thinking it might just be a little rough and too aggressive? I found even those face cloths too rough (Eve Lom system) and it actually made my skin bruise around the eye area. I'd think twice or even three times about this one - it might be meant for young, oily, acne-prone skin with lots of blackheads. My 10pence worth, anyway.

    Happy Pink Saturday!

  3. Hello Adrienne:
We are afraid that we can be no help at all where this is concerned.

But how wonderful that your mother reached 100 years with beautiful skin too. Something for us all to aim for!! Meanwhile, we do hope that you are enjoying a really relaxing weekend.

  4. I don't have one, but I have several friends that swear by it. I say keep it and enjoy your gift to YOU!! I have it on my radar also!!
Let me know what you think after a week or two, always looking for good maintenance products.

  5. Do you think it will do more than you're already achieving with an exfoliate and a scrub and a washcloth? And sunscreen is the most important thing one can do, and you're already doing that--but I need to up my number.

  6. I had a cheapo knock off for awhile. I did feel that my skin felt softer after I used it, but didn't really see any noticeable differences. It ended up breaking after not too many uses, and I've never replaced it. I'd say try yours...you may really like it! :-)

  8. Hi Adrianne, A friend of mine got one of these and after a month asked me if I would like to have it. She said her dermatologist recommended that she not use it. It was too rough for her skin. Said it was ok to use on any part of your body below the neck. Maybe you should consult your dermatologist before using it. Good luck. NB

  9. I have not heard of your clarisonic. With all my allergies I do not use anything but probably should use some sort of skin care. What do you use the Retin A for??? We have some here at home wonder if it would be beneficial for me at all. Maybe go on Amazon and look it up and see if there are any reviews. I find the reviews on Amazon to be very good ~Hope that helps Love Heather

  10. Your skin care regime puts me to shame. I do very little for my face and forget to use sun screen. I have fair skin which makes matters worse! I need to do better or I will be a prune.
I used to have one of these mechanical devises and seem to remember that it was a bit hard on my delicate fair skin. I fear you may never know until you try it.

  11. Wow, you really are serious about skincare. Well, I guess I am, too, a little bit, haha. I have Ok skin, and I take care of it, but I don't use prescription because I moved a lot in the past, I can't afford the trouble looking for a skin doctor when I did. My skin has never been perfect, but never been too bad, either. Just so-so.

THank you for stopping by, I hope you'll swing by again soon!

  13. I used one when I was young, made my face look fresh. When it wore out and I didn't replace it. Now that you've brought this to my attentions I may get another one. If you have sensitive skin you should consult your doctor………..
    Happy Day……...

  14. I'm sorry, I have no idea what a clarisonic is.
When it comes to skin care - I use Nivea for my face, sunscreen or Nivea lotion for my body, don't stay out in the sun too long, drink a lot (like water or watered down fruit juices), laugh a lot and have a few extra pounds. Seems to work.

  15. I am just now seeing this, hence the very late comment. I use a clarisonic, love it, had to send back the first one, but now all is well. I applaud your choices in skincare -- I am a fanatic.
