Although I am planning several posts involving the holidays I thought I needed a breather post, not unlike a sorbet course in an elegant dinner. So this is my version of a 'blog palate' cleanser between the glittery, glitzy, over-rich, lavish courses of Christmas decorating and entertaining. I took this picture a couple of weeks ago in the mid-back garden looking up, past the dry stream, paths and rondelle, toward the house. As you can see the trees still have their leaves and the foliage has yet to turn...this has changed radically in the last few days as the weather has cooled down and we are finally beginning to see what passes for winter in sunny Southern California. Although there isn't much color in the garden for some reason this picture really appealed to me. I hope you like it too. On Friday, back to the fun of holiday decorations...now what should it be...the mantle, the frontroom tree, the confectionery vignette in the kitchen...or maybe Santa's bakery.

This is a serene image...I can imagine you walking about in this place of beauty.
ReplyDeleteHope that your week is going well.
What a beautiful setting. It's just breathtaking. I'd never want to come inside if I had that view. PS. We're under snow in MI. Winter has officially arrived.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of your best photographs ever. Love the "sorbet" reference too.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I love your blog Adrienne!!

ReplyDeleteI'm going to get a glass of wine and just go and hide here for a while.
ReplyDeleteWhat a glorious breather indeed. Your garden/yard is a dream for me. It is incredible. What an oasis. I appreciate the look at something other than holiday. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely beautiful....love your garden!
ReplyDeleteWow Beautiful but it looks like Miami not Southern California its so lush and green so pretty. Our landscaping does not look quite like this, in Lawson Valley lol...Its a little more wild looking around here :)...we are getting lots blooming though from the rain even the wood sorrel has gotten huge on the side of my house I am wondering if it will bloom it's little yellow flowers. Your garden must be wonderful to sit in like a little sanctuary. ~Beautiful Picture ~Love Heather
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a blog palate cleanser, and this is a perfect one. Beautiful garden. So good to see you at the Simple Pleasures party.

ReplyDeleteblessings..Trish
Beautiful Picture , lovely garden
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing
Thanks so much for the breather post. I have joined several blog parties today and am purposely only looking at the pictures/posts that do not have the holiday decor in them. Not that I have anything against the holidays - I'm just overloaded already! I wish I lived closer so that I could visit your garden, it's lovely.

You are making me jealous. I miss my Pasadena "winters." I loved my job as a garden docent at the Huntington Botanical Gardens. I looked back over some of your earlier posts. I have to say, my favorite decoupage job is my friend's guest bath with New Yorker cartoons covering the wall. Come visit us over on the East Coast and see what we're up to in our domestic, chilly bliss.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Liz
Oh my gosh? Are you kidding me? This looks right out of a magazine!! You are a lucky girl :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment about our "Playhouse." Have you ever driven down Oak Grove in San Marino? Its one of the most beautiful streets in America.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing garden!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a lovely sight. It is cold, damp and windy here, so any reminder of spring and summer is really welcome. I hope you are having a great day. Blessings...Mary
