The Joy of fragrance

I love fragrance and I have several kinds but my favorite is the one you see here taking center stage amongst my collection of perfume bottles. It is of course Chanel No 5.

So I was absolutely thrilled when I went to the library and found this book waiting for me, The Secret of Chanel No. 5 ~ The Intimate History of the World's Most Famous Perfume, by Tilar J. Mazzeo who also wrote, The Widow Clicquot, of champagne fame, for those of you who are interested in wine.

Chanel loved white camellias and pearls so I thought they would be perfect additions to these pictures. My Camellias are still blooming, and the opera strand of baroque pearls you see here were given to me many years ago by a beloved aunt who spent many years working in fine jewelry. I have always treasured them.
,

I knew before reading this book of Chanel's fabulous couture, her struggle to overcome her rather sordid background and personal tragedies. But it was the first time that I understood how out of these life time experiences this lovely fragrance was born. It makes it even more precious. And just a little bit dabbed on the nape of my neck makes me feel so very, very, elegant and très chic!

I hope your day is filled with lovely... fragrance, sights and sounds.

  2. Adrienne, Chanel No.5 is my go-to fragrance I have been wearing it since the late 60s. I remember paying 19.00 for the small bottle of perfume. I also remember my 2 year old pouring the whole bottle in his bath water and I was wondering why the bathroom smelled so delicious!!! Timeless, YES, Classic,YES!!!!! From one Chanel No. 5 to another have a wonderfully fragrant weekend, KS

  3. Adrienne,
That is one of my favorites too! There's few that can compare! I love Spring Flower by Creed and Fracas by Robert Piguet... there is joy in fragrance.
    Wishing you a delightsome weekend,

  5. I wore Tranquil Breezes by Victoria's Secret for years- it's right-out-of-the-shower fresh scent was perfect for my jeans and sneakers look. When they discontinued it, my best friend would hunt it down on eBay until that became cost prohibitive. Two years ago for Christmas, my husband walked into a perfume shop and asked the clerk to let him sample anything that just smelled fresh. He scored with two surprise fragrances that are almost as good as my first love. I understand the attachment. Fortunately, I think yours will be around a lot longer.

  21. Each year my New Years Resolution is to find myself a fragrance - but it always smells better in the bottle or on someone else. So it goes back into the Resolution hopper for the following year. I just love when someone wears perfume and walks by - like a passing garden :) XOL
