Up A Tree

I realize that I have been talking a lot about pruning lately so I thought I would share with you a photo taken  while I was pruning one of my apple trees. I keep these trees relatively small so I can prune them myself...still as you see here it does require a bit of climbing. And, yes...I am careful. After this, pruning the roses and the other shrubs is a piece of cake although it usually takes me several weeks to get the whole garden done; just another day in the life of a gardener. This is also where my work at the gym and yoga pays off ~ to keep me in relatively good physical condition so I can continue to indulge in my passion for gardening. And when this is all done I can start planting the dahlias and lilies I bought today...Spring is coming!

How about you...climbed any trees lately?

  3. Look at you! Hard at a wonderful job :o)
Sadly, I haven't climbed any trees lately. At home, all is eye-level, so no need. I've been wanting to plant a palm tree at home, though. I'm convincing my mom what a beautiful addition it would be in our patio. Very tropical, I think, and I love tropical :o)
Be careful! and have a happy garden time!

  5. Not a one! We're still in the rainy Winter season here in the valley of Oregon so I can only dream and plan my outside work. Dreaming of Spring - I am!

  7. Does climbing up to our tree house count? What a great picture of you. Spring is a long time away in MI. I can't wait to see more pictures of your yard for inspiration.

  8. I keep my fruit trees small, too and I am trying espalier with the apple and pear trees. I don't have much space and to keep a long season of fruit for just the two of us, small is better.
Here in northern California they say we shouldn't be too eager with the garden cleanup, let the dead foliage protect the roots and buts. That is a new idea for one such as myself who learned to garden in the San Fernado Valley.

  10. Finished all my pruning in the late autumn. I love to prune!

You're the only person I know who actually looks good while gardening. I look like a mud hen.

  11. Oh, Adrienne, that looks like fun. It's a bit too cold and icy here to do any pruning. I'm looking forward to working in the garden soon. I don't have any trees to climb, but lots of things that need cutting back.

    Enjoy!
    Hugs,
    Donna

  13. Pruning the trees is one of my least favorite tasks in the garden. I'm doing that at the moment as well, and I deeply dislike it. Wish I was already done with it...

  15. This is such a happy post!! I love to garden, but now that we are in a rental that gets put on hold. But I'm okay with it - I'll just live through you! I love that you climb your trees - I have to admit I never did that, although I am crazy tree lover :) I think that will keep you young for a really long time XOL

  24. I love the photo of you! Our temps. are supposed to rise into the low 40's in the next few days with some sunshine so I am hoping to get out and finish autumn yard work that never got done. And prune some of the front tree branches that have gone awry. Thanks so much for visiting. It was wonderful to have you. :)

  25. Hi Adrienne; I SO wish that I could be out pruning trees right now, totally envy your climate. We had a huge snow storm Wednesday so our pine trees are all bent over with heavy snow stuck to the branches right now. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting on my blog. Enjoy your pending spring weather! :)

  31. That photo is a keeper! I love your big beaming smile. And you've shown that staying in shape has more benefits than just looking great...we women need our strength!

When I was a kid, we had an almond tree in the back yard. I used to climb it and eat all the almonds right off the branches. I guess that's why I love raw almonds so much.
