Valentines

This year I thought it would be nice to put all of my vintage Valentines in the guest room. After all they are old-fashion and this room is a rather old-fashion looking room; they seem to fit right in. The little lady's desk that I put them on was my first antique. I remember how my husband labored over restoring it. It is one of my favorite pieces of furniture.

Most of these Valentines were given to me over the years by my daughter, they have become increasing hard to find but last year she surprised me with a new one...maybe this year I will get another surprise...I hope so.

This room is on the list for a re-do but I hesitate, I still love the color and the drapery fabric, it is vintage Laura Ashley, still one of my favorite designers. It would be fun though to make a change and update to a fresher look...I am thinking a pale yellow and blue color palette.

I have been spending a lot of time getting used to my new computer. Between that and finding a substitute for Picnik I have been a bit overwhelmed technologically. I appreciate Kim at Kim's Musings for recommending Foto-Flexer, it looks interesting and offers most of Picnik's features. I would be interested in knowing any other editing sites you would recommend.

Thank you for visiting. Have a wonderful day!

  2. Hi Adrienne,

Your vintage valentines are so pretty. I really do enjoy the old vintage look. They look so nice set up there on your lovely vintage furniture piece. Take care and have fun with the new computer! I have been putting off purchasing a new one, due to the learning curve I will probably have to go through... but I need to do it very soon. Well... I won't think about it today!! LOL! Take care and have a great Sunday!! Hugs!

  7. What a lovely collection of vintage Valentines you have! Mr. CHN and I went to an antique mall yesterday (nice of him to humor me and come along :) ) and I saw some of these Valentines. I didn't notice the price, because I told myself the last thing I need is another "addiction"--I mean collection. But they are so pretty. I like the way you displayed them.

Susan, at BNOTP, recently did a post on alternatives to Picnik, so you might want to turn to that for ideas. She did a great job with that post. ~Zuni

Your collection of vintage valentine cards look wonderful all arranged together. How very thoughtful of your daughter to add to your collection each year, such a sweet idea.

We love yellow and blue in combination, they complement each other in such a sunny and happy way. Yes, we think that your guest room would look lovely decorated in this way.

  9. You have a beautiful collection. My mom has given me several vintage ones, too that I certainly treasure and use in my decor. I agree that they are becoming very hard to find.

Your guest room is lovely as is, but the yellow and blue would be a wonderful way to welcome your guests.

    Have a simply lovely week!

  12. Your daughter is so sweet to give you Valentine's Cards. Love the room too, but it would be fun to see what you would to it. Have you tried Photobucket for editing? You might also pick up Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. It's pretty intuitive to use. xo ~ Rhonda

  14. This has exactly the romatnic feel you'd expect of Valentine's. Beautifully done, Adrienne.
I think many people use Gimp - I personally haven't done so, so really can't say much about it. I am happy with my Photoshop Elements 9.
