A Change in the Garden ~

This is the way that my big border in front of the house looks like now...

But last winter it was a different story. After I finished pruning and cleaning up I decided to add a path through the middle of the border. For years it has been a challenge to get inside, and under all of these plants to weed and deadhead. Here you see it with the weed barrier laid and the rock borders added awaiting the gravel. It  looks pretty sparse.

Putting in the path did necessitate removing some of the plants, and I was concerned that it wouldn't look as good. But now that it has filled in, I can hardly tell the difference!

This is the other side where you exit the path...first, in construction

And now!

I am so glad that I did this, it has made it so much easier to tend and it is fun to walk down the little path and see some of the new plantings. Plus, my poor arms and legs appreciate not getting so scratched up!

I love it when change turn out to be a good thing.

Thank you for visiting ~ have a great day!

  1. What a beautiful path. So pretty and now functional too. Your grounds are so beautiful. Our poor drought has done a number on our flower and plant beds. It's been hard to get excited about working outdoors in 100 degree heat.

  12. Your border bed is incredibly beautiful. Good for you to have made that path, it sure lightens the garden chores. I am going to rip out the huge lawn in front of my house (corner lot, so there is a LOT) and replace it with native plants - a big, long project, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Your border bed is a fine inspiration.

  16. I have a similar issue with one of the widest of my flower borders. By late spring it is almost impossible to get into the bed. The pathway you added looks super and your garden is just gorgeous!

  20. I am not sure where you are located but you must not be having the high temps that we are and the drought. Your gardens looks so lovely and the new path is no only inviting but convenient. My gardens don't look as good this year even though I water them all the time. This is very unusual for this area of Western Illinois that I am in and I am fighting it. Reminds me of being back in Oklahoma where I used to live.
