Magical ~

In the far, far back of the garden, in a mysterious place that anyone seldom goes...

..there is something growing. Not only growing but taking over much of the space. It is the pumpkin patch. It springs to life every year, volunteers from a few seeds planted long ago.

With no care, and little water, the plants miraculously flourish and come autumn I have a wonderful crop of pumpkins, just in time for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

They like to hide out within the vines, but they get so big that it is easy to find them. In fact they are too large for me to lift alone; when Chris, who helps me in the garden, comes next I will ask him to bring them up to the house. I like them all, but my favorites are the Cinderella types...anyone need a carriage?

After the holidays, I will chop them up and throw the remains back on the compose pile where hopefully they will reseed again for next year. My magic pumpkins!
Thank you for visiting, I hope you are enjoying these wonderful autumn days.

  1. So beautiful! Love the orange among the vines!

  2. Bonjour chère amie,

... Une citrouille qui peut-être pourrait se transformer en carrosse !...
Vos photos sont merveilleuses et quel régal cela doit être que de découvrir subitement un tel potiron !
    Gros bisous

  3. Just wonderful. Magic indeed!!!.
    Smiles, Dottie

  4. I love your "volunteer" pumpkins! We have volunteer tomatoes that are delicious. I saw volunteer arugula today! Yes! Linda@Wetcreek Blog

  5. How lucky you are to have such terrific pumpkins. I buy a plant and it grows like crazy and only one pumpkin and it rotted before I cold pick it. You are so lucky to have volunteers that grow such beautiful big pumpkins. Happy Fall.

  6. You are very lucky. We've tried for years to grown our own pumpkins and the deer and ground hogs have a feast with our attempts. Thank you for sharing your magical pumpkins.

  7. What pretty pumpkins you grow! I'm not surprised, though, as everything around your place seems lovely.

  8. Lucky you! You're so blessed to live in such a wonderful climate...I wish things in my garden thrived the way they do in yours.

  9. Oh your pumpkins are sure magical with such a lovely bright clean colour.

Happy Fall. My one fav season.
