A nice exception ~

It has been a very hot summer and with our drought problems and trying to cut back as much as possible on watering, the garden hasn't looked it's best, but a nice exception to this has been Gomphrena, Fireworks. This is a new plant for me, I planted three of them early in the spring from 4 inch pots, and they have been blooming almost continuously. They send out airy stems 24 to 30 inches tall with pretty little puffs of pink flowers. I read online that they make good cut flowers so I thought I would give them a try...

...and here is the result.

If you want to see a really talented floral designer go to Frolic she makes the most beautiful, bountiful, inspiring, flower arrangements using just what is on hand. You can also view her bouquets on Pinterest.

I left the bouquet right where I made it, on the kitchen island. Flowers make just about any room special.

If they do make good cut flowers I certainly know where I can get more, but no matter what next spring I will definitely be planting more gomphrenas.

Thank you for visiting I hope you have a beautiful day.

  3. What a beautiful flower bouquet. Your kitchen is so beautiful and the flowers are the perfect accent. We've had a cooler than normal summer in MI. Not much rain though. Makes me wonder what's in store with our upcoming winter???

  4. Hello Adrienne,

What a pretty posy of flowers you have assembled. You are quite right, they do add a special touch to any room and give an atmosphere of well being and comfort. Yours look lovely in your kitchen which is, obviously, very much the centre of your delightful home.

It is so distressing about the drought. It does make tending the garden both difficult and tiring. Still, your borders look very floriferous from this side of the screen!

  5. Adrienne I know what you mean about the drought, there are parts of my yard that have suffered and to be honest we have not cut back drastically. LOVE your flowers and your counters in your kitchen. You have such a warm and inviting home. I can see just sitting in your home and enjoying the surroundings,
Thanks for your visit to my blog today,

  6. Like you, we have this big drought, and it certainly is no fun in the garden. Next spring I will remember Gomphrena Fireworks, it seems to be a good flower for the drought garden. It surprises me what actually does well! There still is a lot of color in the garden, just not that many plants at the moment.

  8. Your right about our gardens, mine have not fared to well either. They were terrific in the Spring, but as the hot weather wore on ....... they have not given me many flowers and look stressed out.
Yes, they do make a nice arrangement and look good when mixed with other flowers. I am loving this cooler weather.
    Have a great weekend.
