Here it is the beginning of a new year and while everyone seems to be making wonderful and thoughtful New Year resolutions my time has been spent doing one of the things I least like to do.
Making ruffles
Now in the grand scale of things making ruffles is really not that horrible but it does require yards and yards of fabric and it is very time consuming. Years ago I found out that the best way to do this is to lay down crochet thread and use the zig-zag stitch on my sewing machine to sew over it. Then pull the crochet thread to form the ruffles.
The reason for all of this, making a new table covering for the little round table in my living room. With the new color scheme the old one no longer fit in.
After a lengthy search I found both the fabric and the decorative cord online. I wanted something to match the color in the new wallpaper with a rosy-pink accent to tie in with the drapes...this is pretty close.
And here we are...all finished.
I like using this table to display wedding photographs, I think it adds warmth and personality to the room and since they remind me of some of the happiest days in my life I just enjoying looking at them.
What's next...making pillows to match the newly upholstered davenport, they will absolutely have no ruffles!
Thank you for visiting
Happy New Year, Adrienne! Oh, your skirt for your table turned out beautifully. You know what, I make ruffles just like you do. I lady told me about using the crochet thread years ago back in the late 70s when I kept breaking the thread trying to gather up some ruffles! Now, I wanted to ask you about your sewing machine - do you like it? I'm in need of a new one and am going nuts trying to decide which kind, what brand, which bells and whistles I should choose.

Thank you for being so nice.
DeleteMy sewing machine is very old but it just keeps chugging along. My daughter has a Janome and if I were to get a new one that is probably what I would buy. Since I don't do much with decorative stitching I would buy a pretty basic machine. Good luck!
Thank you so much. I've not heard of that one so I'll do some research!

thanks for the tip on making ruffles. my new heavy duty machine I bought a year ago is still in the box unopened. guess you could say my least favorite thing is sewing all together! But, hopefully, I'll get it out and start sewing again this year. Your pretty things are inspiring to read about.
ReplyDeleteYou are a very talented seamstress....the table cloth looks lovely and a fine spot to show off those wedding photos!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for 2017.
XO
I love it when you get your sewing machine out! This tablecloth turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteI loved going back and seeing your lovely Christmas decor this morning. I haven't been on blogger forever, since I haven't figured out how to leave messages on blogs from my phone yet, so I have missed a lot. I had to have some female:) surgery done a few days before Christmas and am just getting around to trying to get back into the swing of things. Couldn't do it before because I had to much gardening to do (I know you understand that since you're a gardener).
Hope your 2017 is wonderful sweet friend!
sending hugs...
You did a great job with those ruffles - they can be a pain! I've used dental floss to make them, but crochet cotton is something I'll try next time since I don't plan on doing any crochet and have lots of thread.
ReplyDeleteHave a great 2017!
Dental floss would be great...the wax might make it pull easier. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe ruffles look great!!! However, I can understand that they are not a favorite to do - I don't like anything that has to do with sewing. And I don't make New Year resolutions as well. I hope 2017 will treat you kindly.
ReplyDeleteAdrienne, I hate to keep repeating myself, but I have to. So beautiful and I can't wait to go further back to see the rest..Happy Wednesday..Judy
