The gift of rain ~

We have been getting a great deal of rain over the last weeks. Our very long drought in California finally seems to have ended. Hopefully this will continue.I imagine that, like me, other people and gardeners throughout the state are breathing a huge sigh of relief.

Rain is really something you don't appreciate unless you go through extended dry periods as we have. It is not only that plant life is effected, but everything gets so dirty. Plants, trees and even the exteriors of houses benefit from a good rain to wash off all of the accumulated dirt, grime and dust.

Now everything seems to sparkle and it is wonderful.

I took these pictures of the front garden from my entry hall - still unfinished, but that is for another post - after a day of very heavy rain, in the afternoon the sun came out and it was almost magical.

I am in the midst of the annual pruning and clean-up of the garden so it looks quite bare and everything that was flowering has been cut back. Even so, the rain lends a freshness that makes everything look appealing.

In a few months, or even weeks, this will all be grown in again and look quite different. If we continue to have more rain it should be a very beautiful spring; quite unlike the springs of the past few years.

I am so proud of two of my family members that are marching in The Women's March today. My granddaughter in Los Angeles, and my niece in Washington D.C. Although I am not able to be there I am with you in spirit.

Thank you for visiting.

  5. Adriane, your garden is beautiful, it sparkles. Mine is dancing in the rain. I got 1-1/2 inches yesterday. I love it and I am sure your right, this Spring will be stunning.
Everything is fresh and clean. Waiting for the third storm to arrive.

Enjoy, the rest of the weekend.

Congratulations to your daughter and niece for marching. If I was able to walk that far I would have joined them.

I never thought you would be someone in support of abortion, That saddens me.

    1. I do not see the Woman's March as a statement on abortion but rather on more far reaching and many other significant problems. As to my feeling on abortion they are private. But I do think that every woman has the right to decide on that herself.

  7. While we have rainy winters here in the Pacific Northwest, late.sprong through September brings drought. I celebrate with you in your joy at the rain.
My sister in NYC and niece in Toronto marched today as well. Like you, I am proud of them and all the others standing up.

  11. Hi Adrienne. I am so happy to see I can follow you by e-mail now. If I don't do that, I sometimes forget to see the blogs that I love. Your garden looks much prettier in it's present state than mine looks at it's peak! Boy, we are so lucky to be getting all this rain. I have to go back and see what has happened with your re-do in the living room. I have missed seeing so much with my computer problems..Happy Wednesday..Judy

  12. It must be hard to go without rain and such a relief to have it now. I bet your garden will really bounce back nicely from the pruning and clean-up you've done. We watched the march coverage on the tv. Very heartwarming to see so many woman standing up to a president with future plans that don't work well for women.

  13. Your garden is looking lovely and it's hard for me to imagine gardening year round :)))
I too am so glad you have been getting the rain Adrienne, because it's been your storms that have come up into Idaho and dropped a total of five foot of snow on my own garden, which means that the reservoir that my water comes from will fill (and then some) and be water for us in my own little valley :)))
    sending hugs...
