I am participating in Weekword this week, the word is Book. I have had a love affair with books every since I first begin to read. As I child, and still today, my favorite place to go is the library...such amazing richness can be found there and it is free to all.
Just being around books makes me happy, I like to have them in every room; I think they add a feeling of comfort and charm. These petit, antique books: the collected works of Charles Dickens, reside in my dining room on a little wall cabinet. I inherited them from my Aunt Lily and they are not in very good shape, their leather bindings are worn and weathered but I love their crumpled appearance and the elegance I think they bring to the space.
I have paired these books with antique and Austin roses for your viewing pleasure...roses and books, what could be better... well, maybe the addition of a cup of tea.
rose: Madame Alfred Carriere |
rose: Lady Hillington |
rose: Heritage |

ReplyDeleteRoses, how I wish! A few horticulturalists can coax these to grow here, but I'm far better with a saw than an arbor. Very well done, and hoe wonderfully gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLove your vintage books - and the roses really make it quite romantic. Love that you also added the doily. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteLook at your beautiful roses! What a pleasure and I can almost smell them from here! I'm with you about books bringing comfort to every room and their existence as real friends along the way. As always, wonderful port Adrienne
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos. As a former librarian, I couldn't agree more about your life affair with books. Our shelves are overflowing at our house and we have stacks and stacks to return to our local library. Your roses are just stunning. Have a lovely weekend.

It's a classic - books and roses. Your photos are amazing, so beautiful and atmospheric.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, elegant work framing some amazing books
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous roses. I lived all of my life on the central coast of California (until my husband retired and we moved to Utah). I took the wonderful weather there for granted. We won't see a rosebud in our gardens until June here in the north. Lovely lilacs too. Aren't the plant breeders clever? Mimi
ReplyDeleteI love books ! I really love them! They are in every room of my home . They make me feel so good. I love old books . I like the smell, the colors and if they are a little dusty I like them even more.
ReplyDeleteI have been in love with then all of my life and so is my son. The library is also my most favorite place to be. I go there when I am sad and when I am happy. I think I

Heaven! I love books and adore roses. And those are beautiful photos. I also have some Austin roses - Mme Alfred Carriere is one of my favourites. I looked at your others with interest as I'm saving up for a big rose purchasing spree this autumn. I lost several roses in the hard frosts, but Getrude Jekyll has come through like a trooper - I recommend that one!
ReplyDeleteOh, your book vignettes are wonderful and your photos, gorgeous! I adore books too as well as roses! Have a delightful day.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi

ReplyDeleteBeautiful roses, mine are just coming out.
ReplyDeleteYour photo's are gorgeous with the roses & books - so glad you shared the names of the roses you featured in your pictures! Thanks so much for joining Fishtail Cottage's, Cottage Flora Thursday's!
ReplyDeleteThe library happens to be one of my most favorite places to go. I, too, am a lover of books, as is my Yankee. Between us, we could open a small library. ;)
ReplyDeleteDickens is one of my favorite authors, Adrienne. I had several vintage Dickens books, but sold them many years ago - regretfully.
Blessings,
