Growing between my house and my Mother's next door there is a very old, very big, and very rambunctious split leaf philodendron. It really wants to take over the world and I am constantly cutting it back, thinking what a horrible pest it is. Then yesterday while clicking through Pinterest images I got the idea of cutting some of the leaves and using them in the house...everything doesn't always have to be flowers.
I filled one of my larger blue and white containers, plopped them in it and set it in the middle of the dining room table. I am loving the simplicity of the arrangement and I think they make a rather nice impact, especially for a winter month.
I have no idea what the vase life of these will be, but I wouldn't be surprised if they lasted a rather long time...if not, I sure know where to get more!
I love it when a pest becomes an asset.

I don't have much blooming in my garden right now so I cut greenery for a pitcher that sits next to my bed. I love seeing the greenery when I waken in the morning. Flowers would be prettier, but the greenery is doing the trick.
ReplyDeleteYour dining room is lovely! I am drawn to your collection of blue and white porcelain. How wonderful that you live so close to your Mother too, and I thought to myself how lucky I was to be 5 minutes away from my mom and here you are just a hop, skip and a jump apart.
ReplyDeleteBtw I think foliage is just as lovely as flowers especially when it is as interesting to look at as this leafy one.
Great idea about the leafy bouquet. Linda@Wetcreek Blog
ReplyDeleteBrilliant way to bring the indoors inside. It's a beautiful bouquet.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful and cheerful room/ I like the way the plant looks too!

ReplyDeleteAdrienne, your home is beautiful. I stop by to the post.to see all your lovely pictures. You are so lucky to have you mom so close. Don't be surprised if you leaves start rooting, they look stunning on your table. Sometimes I cut my large bird of paradise leaves and put them in a vase - look good too.

ReplyDeleteHi Adrienne. I am visiting because I saw your blog on At Brenda's. I see we have something in common, a love of blue and white china. Your home is beautiful and I am going to spend some more time right now reading some other posts to get a better look :)
ReplyDeleteFlowers are great, but I actually really like an arrangement of green leaves. Let's face it, any green is nice in winter especially up here in Canada! I also really like all the blue and white accents in your dining room.
ReplyDeleteThat plant certainly makes an impact - I love it!! It looks gorgeous on your table. Wonderful that you brought it inside.
