Sometimes it is hard to prune back roses when they look as lovely as this. These are from the beautiful David Austin rose, Tamara that I spent the morning pruning.
But it has to be done and in a couple of months the bushes should be full of new growth and lots of buds. Then, if I am lucky, the cycle will repeat; gardens are full of wonders.
Unfortunately we are suffering a serious drought and I am very concerned how the garden will fare through the summer months this year. I am already planning for watering restrictions and trying to find ways to cut back, which means more gravel and mulch areas and less grass.
Thank you for visiting, I hope that you are having a very rosy day!
Thanks for the reminder to get out the snippers. Tomorrow is pruning the roses day! Have a great weekend. Linda@Wetcreek and Wetcreek Museum Blogs
ReplyDeleteThe roses are so beautiful! I hope you get rain real soon.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, Adrienne!!
ReplyDeleteYour roses are gorgeous. It's hard to imagine drought like conditions with all the excessive snow we've had in MI this year. Thank you for sharing your lovely blooms with us northern folks.
ReplyDeleteI was tempted to prune the roses two weeks ago when it was so warm, but didn't have time. I'm so glad now, as we've had freezing temperatures for the past few days. Pruning will wait!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that we will have drought on the island this year, and certainly water restrictions. Your ideas are all good. When we had restrictions in the past I always put a bucket in the shower so that not all the water went down the drain. I also put a bucket under the tap in the kitchen to catch the cold water that came as I waited for the hot water.
Oh ! le beau bouquet chère Adrienne!!!
ReplyDeleteYour roses are beautiful! I'll be pruning mine in the next week or so.
ReplyDeleteI hated to have my roses pruned also. The gardeners are almost finished just have about 10 more to do. They are showing a lot of new growth already. I think the first blooms in Spring are the pretties, can hardly wait.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Mary
Adrienne, those are the most beautiful roses. Are you having rain now? We have had quite a bit (10 inches) but still is not enough. We are also thinking about redoing the garden as there is a lot of lawn and flowers now. I have to come up with a good plan though to make it look like it fits in with a Victorian house..Happy Monday..Judy
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful roses! We have no roses yet, I am looking forward the summer days!
ReplyDeleteFebruary is the time to prune roses here in NC too. We have had unusually cold weather and a huge snowstorm this week so I am going to wait until nearer the end if the month. Your roses are beautiful
ReplyDeleteYour roses are beautiful! I have David Austin in my rose garden but it's winter here and there are not blooms. It is time to do winter pruning before Spring buds begin to appear. Even though we have had much rain lately and our streams have overflowed, we are still behind in what we need for the summer months.
